How to Properly Mix 2-Stroke Fuel for Your Equipment

Mixing 2-stroke fuel correctly is essential for keeping your equipment running smoothly and extending its lifespan. Here’s a quick guide on mixing fuel for both 50:1 and 40:1 ratios.

1. Choose the Right Oil and Fuel

Use high-quality, unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89. Avoid gasoline with more than 10% ethanol, as it can damage your engine. Pair it with a 2-stroke engine oil specifically made for small engines.

2. Mixing Ratios Explained

A 50:1 ratio means 50 parts gasoline to 1 part oil. A 40:1 ratio means 40 parts gasoline to 1 part oil. Your equipment's manual will tell you which ratio to use, so always double-check!

3. Measure the Fuel and Oil

To make 1 litre of fuel mixture:

  • For a 50:1 ratio: Mix 20 mL of oil with 1 litre of gasoline.

  • For a 40:1 ratio: Mix 25 mL of oil with 1 litre of gasoline.

For a larger mix, double these amounts (e.g., 2 litres of gasoline would need 40 mL for a 50:1 mix or 50 mL for a 40:1 mix).

4. Mix Thoroughly

Pour the gasoline into an approved fuel container first, then add the oil. Close the container and shake well to ensure the oil is evenly distributed.

5. Label and Store

Label the container with the ratio and date, and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Try to use mixed fuel within 30 days for best performance.

By following these steps, you’ll keep your 2-stroke equipment running efficiently and avoid costly repairs!
